Fair dinkum, I thought we were gonna crash on the landing, and let out the classic rendition of "what the 'heck' was that?" When the old bloke next to me finished roaring laughing, he told me that these types of craft swing a bit on a landing, that they feel every gust in the rear. Lovely! As if my near death experience at Uluwatu wasn't enough! But hey, living on the edge really puts the adrenaline in your veins, right?! Yeeeuuw!
Staying down here at a typical island bungalow on Kuta Beach at Lombok; the room has a view to the beach, coconut trees all around and rose-orange bougainvillea flowers line the walks. The blues and the greens of the sky and ocean and the surrounding peaks of the mountain range combine the colors and it feels like a wonderland. It's nice to walk around on grass again. I watched the sunset on the beach from my bed, then dozed for a few hours under the fan. When I woke up it was quite dark, so I took a walk onto the grass and looked up to see a million stars all shining brilliantly in the liquid black night. There's something about looking up at the sky that feels so uplifting, day or night. You feel like you can fly!
I am in Lombok for a few days, I want to head out to see a buddy from W.A who is camping on the beach for three months (there are no hotels or losmen out there), at Desert Point which is a surf spot way out, about 4 hours away on the east corner of Lombok. The waves are too big and heavy for me, but the fishing is good so I will have a lash at that. You never know, I might even feed myself!! It can get a bit precarious out in the sticks in these Muslim zones. A Skippy bloke's arm was chopped off with a machete by a wild local this time last year. The circumstances surrounding the attack were clear and the story which has been circulated seems consistent- the Skip came across a local in the bush late in the night and frightened him, the local just started swinging, it was a reaction. When you have all kinds of heavy jungle shit going down you don’t take chances, I guess. Spooky story. Mental note: stay on it.
It's late, an early start calls tomorrow. I don’t want to miss a thing, the energy here is awesome. Real goey, wild, wide open and full-throttle out here at Kuta, Lombok. Keep Powering Young Lovers!
